    Default SmartBolts

These are SmartBolts, they tell you when they’ve been tightened sufficiently and when they haven’t. An indicator disk shows you the actual tightness of a bolt. The indicator disk works by compressing a small fluid filled area.
Changes color depending on how tight the bolt is.

Smartbolts can be individually tailored to meet the customer’s needs.
A wide variety of bolt sizes and finishes are available.

Like so many things I've seen in the mechanical arena, it's a good idea, but it will have to be well implemented to be useful. If they are made right, these could be very useful. Interesting regardless. +rep for the find

    Just like Blu-ray players.

Once upon a time, they were what, $600USD?

And recently I saw one for $120.

maybe a poor example, but I think my point is still valid

but things that go down in price, at least in a decent amount of time anyway, are popular things. i don't see this ever hitting main stream unless they were cheaper then a standard one or the same price.

Exactly what I was about to say lol. If they don't become main stream then the price wont drop and eventually they will stop making them.

It will take a good amount of marketing for this to catch on. These would be good for old cars where the bolts get loose. You could just look for the red dots and tighten things up. But I really doubt that this will catch on because manufacturers want you to buy new stuff instead of maintain your old stuff.
