Thread: RAID question

  1. #1

    Default RAID question

    current setup:
    ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 motherboard
    HD501LJ Samsung 500GB 7200RPM 16Mb cache
I'd like to go RAID 1 as I have some very important files that I'd hate to lose. The HD501LJ model is no longer made due to many unexpected HD deaths.

Should I purchase the new HD502LJ (same specs) or go with another drive?
The WD 500GB 7200RPM 16Mb cache WD5000AAKS has my eye.

Is it possible to RAID 1 a 500 GB 7200RPM Samsung drive and a 500 GB 7200RPM Western Digital drive?

    I don't see why not.

Even if your onboard raid controller doesn't let you use two diffrent disks, you can allways use the intel matrix storage program.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to use the onboard controller. You might loose a few Mb off the disk and a minor performance loss but it should be possible.
