    Default fanless cooled 3850?

I'm looking to make a case that's pretty thin, and using a fanless cooler would make that a lot easier for the layout i have planned. would using a fanless cooler like this one be more space/performance efficient?
It's going to be on it's side with not a whole bunch of learance, maybe 1/4" or so.

That isn't a fanless cooler; they're RAMsinks to go with a different cooler. You still need to get a cooler to cool the core.

I've heard good things about the AC S1. I've seen it on a gpu though and that thing is pretty freaking huge atleast in the directions parallel to the pcb. Not sure how "thick" it is though.

sapphire has a passive 3850, but the heatsink wraps around to the back of the card, if that matters

Here you go. This comes passive cooled from Sapphire.

Although I'm not sure what you mean by thin, pretty much any passive cooled GPU is going to take up some decent space and be taller than the graphics card. It's easy enough to find a fan cooled one that fits in a very small space, most 3850s only take up one expansion slot, including the cooler.

The problem is, i already have everything, and (unfortunately) got the dual slot cooled 3850 from diamond. So all the capacitors are in horrible spots, and i don't want to spend another $150 to make this mod a reality. so i'm looking for an aftermarket cooler...

that sapphire cooler would be perfect, i'm mounting it at a 90 degree angle, and as it is, the fan would be right at the bottom of the case. i looked at a ribbon riser card, but i can't find any that would be long enough for me to flip the card that are less than $50.
