    I don't think it's mad at you, it looks like the connection just timed out and couldn't reach the server.

    Are/were you playing on a high population server? What does the tracert to the server look like?

    Also, this could be a problem on the server end--the authentification program might be hiccupping.

    I've seen stuff like this mainly in Warcrack...err craft, and I imagine the same rules will apply.

    I logged out and logged back in to steam (do probably once a month since it remembers my pw) and it fixed. +rep to both of you for the fast responses.

    I encounter the same problem and you have found the only solution. The steam auth servers maintain a specific ammount of active authorizations. In order to reduce latency for players currently playing/DLing, they will expire dormant auth's in order to maintain a healthy level. There really is no time period for the process, it depends entirely on how many people are using steam over a given period of time.
