anywho, on to the mod: I like it so far. I don't care if it's been done before (although admittedly a different generation of NOD was done), I still can't wait to see your approach.
I must say the TW temple is verry nice too
Shame the game wasn't released when I was working on my current mod

I agree. One of the fun things about this forum is that you can see how things were done differently.

OMG yes! The command and conquer series is one of my favorites. This looks real good so far, hope it keeps going well. Looking forward to updates.

    Default Update 1 - Obelisk of Light - Januari 2 2008

    Update 1 - Obelisk of Light - January 2 2008

The first designs, templates, cut outs and molds.

I made some cut-outs in foam to decide what measurements to take for the obelisk.
This are the pieces of foam it will be created out of.

transferring a drawing on the foam before I'll cut it out.
I tried to get the look of the in-game design, sadly there was a lack of good high res designs of the obelisk.

The design after it was cut out.

After some cutting and sanding this is the result , as you can see it is about 42 cm wide.

Now cutting out the obelisk tower.

This is how it looks on top of the base

I cut out the lower part of the tower, I am waiting a bit with the top part because I am still not so sure how to obtain the best result.

This is how I cut it out, I am not so pleased with the result at this state, later I'll redesign a better looking top.

To protect the foam from the epoxy and to obtain a good smooth surface I am plastering the model.

It is pretty rough at this state, the plaster takes about 4 hours to dry.

How it looks after it has been sanded

Also the tower has to be done.

I sadly lost some pictures here but this is the new redesigned tower, plastered and done.
I like this design way better

After I rubbed on bee wax on the model (so it will release easily at a later state) it was time for the gel coat.
This is a sort of soft smooth top layer before you start laminating with epoxy.

The tower and the base after they had been laminated and cured.
These will form the negative molds in which I will create the true obelisk.

    Now removing the foam.
    I like the hammer part

It is a lot of foam...

Now I am removing the last parts of plaster which still reside in the mold, the goal is to get the molds as smooth as possible.

As it is impossible to release the future tower from its mold in the old state it had to be cut in 2 parts.

The next step is to create the results using my new molds.
These pictures will be shown in the next update.

Default Update 1 - Devil's Tongue Flame Tank

    Update 1 - Devil's Tongue Flame Tank - 2 February 2008

As I told before, I wanted to make a cool robot which could run on its own and be able to do some cool stuff.

So I came up with the cool Devil's Tongue flame tank, As you might suspect the thing will be able to throw some real large flames

I started with making a cardboard model and creating the basic model with it.

It will have to accommodate at least one battery, I prefer even more.

Time to Start on the tank, It will be crafted out of Aluminum because It has to withstand flames.

This case can house 2 batteries easily...

Creating the back of the tank, at the top the motors will be positioned.

This is how it looks with the lid on.

    The front attached...

and a view from the back...

I am sawing a raw block of aluminum, this will become the drive train.

After some milling and fitting, there are 2 45 degree gears installed, 2 bearings and a motor.

You can see them run in these movies:

I ordered track at conrad, it looks very nice

    And from the back...

I milled small blocks to hold the shafts

Next it was up to create and test some flame throwers.
    Milling some aluminum...

This will become the inner nozzle of the flame thrower.
This part is critical to a good flame thrower as it will create a vacuum to pull in liquid fuel and then mix that together.

almost done, just have to cut it now.

This part is used to connect an air hose.

The boring isn't as critical as it was with the inner nozzle.

Just need to cut it now.

    The flame thrower assembled...

The flame thrower in exploded view

You can see the inner nozzle good here

    Ahh my pyromaniac setup.

I shot some movies of mixtures with different fuel and pressure mixes.
    you can see them here.
the largest flame I achieved was about 3 meters long.

    4 BAR spiritus:

    7 BAR spiritus:

    4 BAR lamp oil

    4 BAR Thinner

    7 BAR thinner

I Did some more experiments with gasoline but That was too crazy to show, The only thing you see is flame
But You could say I can use pretty much any flammable liquid.

    More to come SOON

that is really freaking cool. my only questions about the flame tank though are,
It looks like your gear ratios for the track are a little small, you sure you'll get enough from them to actually move the thing with all the weight without blowing circuit breakers?

and with the flamer, just because I'm a safety guy in my job, you have any anti blowback mechanism installed in the device? or what about an automated cutout/extinguisher thing?

does this say enough (I am a lot further than you might expect )

I was thinking about a Co2 cardridge, but I think the problems will be minimal as I am not playing with gasses but with liquids.
