That is true, and you are right. I wouldn't spend the extra 400AUD for a 10% performance increase, I could water cool both of those cards for just under $150AUD each and could spend the rest towards more RAM or a CPU upgrade. Personally I find that approach better, especially if you haven't got any hardware yet.

yup for sure, though if nothing comes out by my birthday (March) that's better then an ultra and doesn't cost anymore i will be getting one and water cooling it. i will probably also end up volt modding it now that i know its easy enough. then again maybe i will get two 8800GT's and sli them, but with my upgrade vista is on the list and i've heard sli and vista should never be in the same sentence.

Well the new 8800GTS will probably be out by March, aren't they meant to beat the Ultra? and they are meant to be cheaper also.

i know there suppose to be as good as the 8800GT but not sure if they match or surpass the ultra. part of me hopes they do because then i would grab two but i don't like the GTS part, sounds wimpy haha, i'm way to picky (not the write word, can't think of the right one) on names and products. but if i could get could the power with the same price or cheaper i would take that for sure.

The ULTRA is just a superclocked 8800GTX with a better heatsink. Go with the two GTX's and water cool and OC, you should exceed stock ULTRA specs.

It's a different Core actually, it's referred to as the G80+ It is not the same as a GTX core, that's why it can be pushed further. All they did with the heatsink is move the fan to direct airflow better the heatsink itself i believe is the same.


As for anything better than the 8800GTX it will come, but at this rate it'll be next year, ATi currently pose no threat to the 8800GTX and Ultra, the 3870 X2 could be the key to push Nvidia to bring out a new bitching card, which will again leave ATi behind in the dust crying, because they failed at life and so did AMD :p

True True, the last time I saw ATI on top was when they released the X800 Radeons. And as for AMD, the socket 939 Athlons were their last big achievement. AM2 went bust really fast lol.

The new 8800GTS 512MB will be coming out December 3rd for $300-$325. It is expected to beat the 8800GTX by a decent amount. Heres the article (with pictures).

If I were you, I'd go with that card.
