here's a fish story for ya!
So we used to have a fish tank in our living room, somewhere around 50 gallons octagonal prism. It had two pieces of glass on top of it for a lid.
So one day my mom was feeding the fish we had. We had one "shark" and some bleeding hearts (http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fres...WFCH_P1759.jpg or something like it)
.
So any way my mom was feeding them one day, and they got a little bit over excited. One of the bleeding heart leaped into the air and was cleaved in half when my mom closed to the 2 glass lids. They came together at an angle and came apart, leaving a soft of edge where when you put the lid back on it came in contact at a "sharp" angle. The fish jumped up at exactly the right time and the exactly right angle (or the opposite if you thing about it).
Pretty sad day that was. But at least it was a sort of humorous death...
You love my sig.
First off, goldfish are some of the messiest fish you'll come across in the hobby. A small tank, no matter how often you change the water, is not going to be able to support the bio filtration needed to cope with the amount of ammonia and other waste put out by these fish. This is why most people suggest 10-20 gallons at LEAST per goldfish. The build up of waste will stress your fish out making it susceptible to any number of illnesses and can quickly reach the point that it is toxic to the fish.
Size is another issue. A fully grown comet goldfish can reach up to a foot in length, the fancies and get close to that. Ex: Will a 12" fish be able to turn around, let alone move in a 10" tank?
