    Ahh, thanks Sky for the explanation of the blast door mechanism. That helps a bunch.

    A couple of questions: is there any problem with the the door torqueing sideways because you're pulling from one edge. Also what shuts the motor off? Does it stay on when its up?

    If you look closely (in the video) you can see that the motor is mounted with a 6" or so piece of alum angle on the entire width of the door--this spreads the force evenly on it preventing the torque you mentioned..had I not put in this brace, yeah it might. The door is also very light weight, only a few ozees, and the track is greased up with white Lithium.

    For the motor switch I'll use one similar to those used for a car window--SPDT (single pole double throw) spring loaded. Those springs I installed on the drive rail prevent the gears from stripping, and also the motor from burning out..the gear will simply spin untill the motor is reversed

    Low tech, but hey its solid and does the trick.
