    Re: DDR2/DDR3 compatibility

Yes, DDR3, sorry for not specifying. Probably looking to start with 3-4gb to begin with.

Moving past that now, what do you guys recommend for a decent quality memory that's not going to cost an arm and a leg?

    DDR2/DDR3 compatibility

Can one put DDR2 in a board that supports DDR3? I heard the slots are physically different. Just here to confirm or deny said claims and make sure I'm buying the right parts.

Re: Planning stages for a new mod: Diamond PC

I guess, depending on what space will be taken up by components and cable, you could try and setup a few small mirror pieces to try and setup the stereotypical "brilliance" you get out of cut stones...

    Re: Am2/Am3

Ok, so I'll just have to get the CPU same time as the board. The board I'm buying is AM3 only.

    Am2/Am3

So, I'm going to begin upgrading my PC piecemeal style. I am thinking the MOBO is first. Can I put my athlon 64 x2 into an am3 slot and not have a problem? Or will it just not work?

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

Upgrading for the most part could be that way, but the mobo is an am2 slot, so anything am3 COULD fit, but wouldn't do near as good. :P

Plus, it was a second-hand system. I wouldn't mind getting...

    Re: Pick your poison

I'm a cocktails and beer kind of guy. If there's no good beer, then I tend to stick with my cocktail standard: vodka/cranberry.

After doing too much heavy drinking and shots in college (and...

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

Yeah I had heard about that. Hopefully when I upgrade the guts to something am3 socket based, it'll not be so funky with 64-bit OS.

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

I plan on going to something like a 2.6-3.2 quad-core (amd), definitely staying with nvidia though. I had bad experiences with ATI cards. I also plan on throwing another 1tb drive in (or 2 500mb more...

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

I honestly don't plan on putting anything else in the slots below anyway. I'll eventually upgrade the system to better guts, but that's in the future.

I have an apevia x-discovery for the case, it's pretty tight already, not sure if I could fit something that big.

Oh...well then I guess I shouldn't freak out so much about the GPU being 77c.

    Thanks.

Speaking of other things though: I just got the 2 new fans from the UPS guy, time to slap em in and see if...

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

Well, the latest program reads: 47 and 42c (core 0 and 1 respectively).

I'll see what I can do for pics of the internals.

Re: Horrible Temps in Apevia X-discovery. Help.

Now I just need to figure out how to drop the GPU down from the 77c it's currently running... :smoker:

I'm going to probably buy a slot cooler in the near future.

    I wouldn't mind...

    System:

    Win 7 32bit
    ASUS M2n-SLI Deluxe board
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 5000+
    Geforce 8800 GT
Corsair 1gb DD2 (not sure of anything else on it)
I believe the CPU cooler is the stock one.

Ok, installed speedfan and what I have so far is:

    GPU: 77c
    Temp1: 42c
    Temp2: 41c
CPU: -64c (that can't be right)
    Internal Temp: 37c
Remove Temp: -64c (once again...can't be right)

Update: I put in a better 120mm fan and manually set GPU fan to run 50%. CPU runs between 40-50c and GPU runs between 65-75c. Thanks guys!
