Thermaltake Orb Series

It seems Thermaltake has just added another "Orb" CPU cooler to their collection. The Thermaltake Orb "Ruby". It looks like it was designed to be used with "recent" CPU releases such as the Core 2 Duo. The only differences that I have noticed other than the color is the measurements and of course things like CFM/DBA/RPM.

Golden Orb:
Fan Dimensions: 100 x 100 x 24mm
Heatsink Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 63mm
RPM: 1600±10% RPM
Air Flow: 35.43 CFM
Noise Level: 17 dBA

Blue Orb II:
Fan Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 24.3mm
Heatsink Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 66mm
RPM: 1700 RPM
Air Flow: 77.85 CFM
Noise Level: 17 dBA

Ruby Orb:
Fan Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 24.3mm
Heatsink Dimensions: 140 x 140 x 73.3mm
RPM: 1700±10% RPM
Air Flow: 77.85 CFM
Noise Level: 17 dBA

As you can see, other than that slight increase of hieght and the change of color, it is basically a Blue Orb II. But for those who color scheme your computers, this just might come in handy!

Anyone have any information that I over looked?

Update!

It seems that there is also a weight difference between the Orbs! This is great information to me, as a heatsink that weighs too much can be troublesome for some people. Like, you know, cheap flimsy boards that might warp under certain weight.

Golden Orb:
Grams: 752g
Pounds: 1.6pnds

Blue Orb II:
Grams: 869g
Pounds: 1.9pnds

Ruby Orb:
Grams: 545g
Pounds: 1.2pnds

As you can read, the Ruby Orb is almost a whole pound lighter! I wonder how they pulled that off?

Different metals, different alloys. The only noticed thing I found that was different was lack of copper in the ruby orb.

I still have a thermaltake golden orb for my old slot a 750 mhz athlon. System still runs too. 6 years and the damn thing still works like the day I built it. Few fan replacements, a new psu, but not much considering.

I thought all the Orb series were copperless? Not a plus, but they seem to work real well.

Six years with or without the golden orb nil8? If you have had that thing for six years and it is still running like new? I think I'm sold then! ...for the ruby that is. ^^ Its just so pretty!

Six years with. A different design, but the same basic idea. Slot processors require different heatsinks than sockets.

It says in the newegg description under detailed info that the blue orb has aluminum and copper.

As for heatsinks, the thing I find the hardest is keeping the fins dust-free. Are there anybody out there that have found ways to keep dust off or really reduced on a heatsink beside a hepa filter and a good blow job from a can of air now and than?

Air filters on your fans. Stops it before it reaches your proc fan.
Don't smoke or have pets or kids around your machines if possible.

i recently tried several kinds of filters in a 1.25killowatt television emitter :) and i must say that it originally had a spongey-like filter, but bigger, similar to what PCs have... still, changing it with aluminum or steel or even plastic weave better keeps dust away, even though you have to wash/change it more frequently to avoid dust impeding airflow.. too much :) so, if u think of a nice filtering system that has easily removable filters on all intakes, you won't get dust between the fins :)

Might be old history to most of you, but to some it would probably be more well known as "revolutionary" in CPU cooling. That is, if my information is right. I believe it was the first CPU cooler to bring that "radius" design to the market?
