Got my Netbook

After a bunch of research I decided to get an Asus Eee PC 1000HE. It's got a battery life of up to 9.5 hours! I will be upgrading it to 2GB of RAM once it arrives. Out of box specs are:

10 inch LED backlit WSVGA screen (1024x600)
Intel ATOM N280 processor 1.66GHz
1GB DDR2 memory
160GB HDD built in plus 10GB Eee Online Storage
9.5 hour battery
With battery weighs 3.2 lbs

It's got a BIG standard laptop hard drive which I would like to change to about a 4GB SSD. Do SSD's have SATA connections so it's easy to swap out?

Also, it says that it has a single slot for DDR2-667. I assume I can use DDR2-800 when I upgrade it to 2GB right?

Just by going off of Newegg, it looks like the cheapest SATA SSD drive is 16GB and not much more for 32GB. Although I'm not sure what the difference between SATA and SATA II is, but the prices are about the same either way so best be safe than sorry and just go with plain SATA?

By the way, you won't see a performance boost unless you drop in a pretty penny for something like an Intel drive. But if you just want to go SSD for the quietness and reliability, then by all means go right ahead. Just thought I'd let you know just in case, because that was my misunderstanding with SSD's. I thought they were all faster than HDD, but apparently not, from what I've been told. (From Wikipedia, it seems SATA 1.5GB/s maxes out at 150MB/s, whereas going off of newegg the cheap SSD drives are usually below 50MB/s. Although SATAII goes up to normal speeds and a bit faster for their cheap drives. Might want to figure out if you can use SATAII then! From what I've read, it seems there is a jumper setting that you have to mess around with or something.)

DDR2-800 will work just fine, but I don't know if it will run 800 or not. My guess is that it will only run at 667, unless maybe you change some settings around in the BIOS?

What can you do with it to actually get 9.5hrs? Standby?

I have the HP Mini 1030NR and can get good battery life for surfing the net but watching a movie I get about 2-2.5hrs.

According to the review I posted above, it gets 6 hours of media playback before dying.

But to achieve full rated battery life, you usually have to turn everything off and put everything on low. But even with everything on it should still be able to get 7 hours at least. (which the review backs up, they got about 7 hours with everything on.)

A few responses here, I think when you see 4 gb ssd on the other laptops I think it might mean free space, unless the os the run it really that tiny.
On the ram question, I don't know you would have to see the board I know my older desktop didn't support 800 but used 667 so it might not be possible to run it at full speed.

Can I ask what your gonna use it for?

Actually I just want one. I have no actual use for it. That's why I'll eventually get an SSD drive for it, because I doubt I'd ever need more than 40GB's, but that can wait a year or so when they get a lot cheaper. I already ordered the DDR2-800 RAM so I'll se if it works, if not I'll get the DDR2-667 instead. The DDR2-800 was only $17 on Newegg so no biggie. Hell, I could probably sell it to someone for more.

When it comes I will be doing a review and I will definitely test the battery so stay tuned.

You can use DDR2 800. It will just run at the DDR2 667 speed.

OK, I still haven't received my Netbook, but I'm sure it'll be here soon. Newegg has 64GB OCZ SSD's for a little over $100. It's a SATA II drive, so I'm still not sure if it'll work for the Netbook or not. If it does, I WILL be getting it soon. I'm sure that'll up my battery time too.
