Changing Mouse LED from red to blue
Read the disclaimer up there ^^^ first
So you have a cool blue illuminated keyboard, and an optical mouse. What colour is the mouse's LED?
I'll bet it's Red.
Wouldn't it be nice if it were blue?
Well, it's easily done. Here's how i changed the LED in my logitech click!
It was red:
So, open it up and take a look inside:
After removing the wheel, and that bracket, the PCB can be lifted out:
Upon closer inspection, it seems that the LED can simply be unclipped from the holder without removing the board.
Here it is:
Replace it with a blue one, reassemble and Voila!
Reasembly is easy, especally if you take photos along the way. See those two springs on the scrollwheel? I hadn't seen them until they dropped onto my bench. If I hadn't taken that photo I would have been scratching my head for ages figuring out how they went...
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
MS OPTICAL MICE***************
you can do this to pretty well any optical mouse. i have done this a few times on microsoft mice but there is a gotcha. on ms optical mice there is 2 led's . One for the rear ligting one for motion tracking. you can change the motion tracking easy enough but the one that provides the accent lighting at the back has a red bit of plastic i shines through. this unfortunately acts as a color filter and if you put any other color then red it wont shine through :-( perhaps if someone got inventive with some colored plex and made something about the same shape and size that could make it work out better.
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
on my computer I have 2 mouses : my Logitech Cordless Click! Plus Optical, which I wouldnt mod cause it works perfecly, plus it's wireless, and some kind of cheap PS2 mouse that has 4 LEDs!! The scrollwheel is transglucent, so the red LEDs make the wheel glows red. Theres another led for motion tracking, and the other one is there only for more lighting...
This is a good idea tho! changing the leds to make them of any other colors.. red/blue/yellow/orange/any possible colors...
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
Yep, and the tracking LED can be any colour, mine works just as well in blue.
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
i heard something about a guy named ZapWizzard replaceing his mouse led with a laser pointer's laser led. apparenty he could move the mouse even a few inches off the table surface and it would work. not that its really usefull or anything. just kind of neet to know
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
lol my mouse barely even has an led its a g5
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
Hmmm...... there always is the option of putting a multi-colour-changing LED into the mouse, I haven't tried it, but there could be a problem.....
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
you know you could be on to something with that multicolored led idea. ever knowtice that the intesity of the light is higher after the system thinks the mouse has moved and then it times out and the light gets dimmer. i wonder if there is a way to trap that function and make it run the 2 diffrent LED colors. maybe with like a transistor or something
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
It is possible, but the circuit I thought up would drain the battery more quickly when in use. Unless you're using a cable, shall I post up a circuit diagram of it?
Re: Simple 5 minute mouse mod.
you most definately are welcome to. i would be very interested to see how it gets hooked up. im thinking to use something like that on a usb cable driven mouse so power shouldent be an issue
