Dremel Options

Hi everyone, i do a fair bit of case modding in my spare time, one of my main hobbies. Anyway, up til now ive had to use my dads jigsaw for all my cutting, this is highly inaccurate and a beast to handle. My birthday comes up soon and im planning to get a dremel, i was thinking the Dremel 300JE looked fairly good, comes with the flexi-shaft extension and a lot of other stuff.

Anyone here have any opinions or experinces on this?

Pretty sure that's the same one i have. It's a nice tool. Never had any problems with it.

Thanks Dave, on other forums people are saying its a lightweight one, and cant handle things like steel cases... Is that true or are they underestimating

That's definitely a basic model. You might want to move up to a variable speed version, that has high, low and off.

I would suggest this set.

It has the flex shaft, a good hand design, variable speed.

No, it really can't handle cutting steel. But i use a jigsaw for cutting steel.

ok well, steel was exaggerating slightly, how about 2mm aluminium, and what exactly is it that governs its cutting abilities, because i see almost all of them have the same rpm at an average of 30,000rpm, and all i see different is the actual features, like some have wierd LCD dispalys on them and stuff, so how comes this version isnt up to cutting big stuff like 1-2mm steel cases?

the 300Je has variable speed doesnt it...?? or maybe were talking bout different things here, lol...

Yes, it has a variable speed. I think the stronger drill has more torque-the 300 series has less torque and cannot 'force' its way through thicker metals. Although i suspect it really comes down to your technique. Mine sucks.

2mm aluminium won't be much fun to be honest. You might be happier with the jigsaw. I find the jigsaw's much easier and more accurate anyway. Maybe it's just different tools for different folks.

Ah right, forgot about the whole torqu thing, yeh, i suppose thats right... And yes, i do suspect
different people find it easier with different toosl, even with different attatcments and accessories...
