VIA's selling a $49 Android PC - No, Really!
I stumbled across this today: VIA is producing a "Neo-ITX" (read: smaller than Mini-ITX) ARM-based PC running Android that they are selling for $49! Dubbed the APC 8750, it's a complete ARM-based system on a 170mm x 85mm PCB that's equipped with an ARM 11-based 800MHz SoC processor, 512MB of DDR3 RAM, 2GB of NAND Flash memory for the custom Android 2.3 OS, and a microSD slot for all your "mass storage" needs. It also features 4 USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet port and built-in graphics capable of HD output up to 720p through VGA or HDMI.
Based on the site, it seems like they are trying to build a cheap "Internet Gateway" PC. For a modder, seems like a neat little board for an ultra-small form factor PC or a specialty project. It might make a good media streamer to attach to your TV, except it can't handle 1080 resolutions. Lots of potential ideas here, though, IMO. Cool find! I could think of a few cool uses for this.
EDIT: wonder if one could take the android OS from this and use it with the raspberry Pi, that does do 1080p output.

I think we are going to start seeing a bunch of these popping up. Here is one that I read about last week thats $74 and the size of a large USB stick and its running Android 4.0 (I have a hard time with the name Ice Cream Sandwich  )

I can see some interesting uses for them.

^I'm starting to be interested in the Ali-X family of Web sites. I saw an LCD controller there for $10, including shipping.

If anyone orders anything off of their site, let us know how it goes. Seems like a fishy site to me but that could be the horrible english translation.

There are some fishy dealers.
I'd just keep an eye out for the PayPal sellers. Insist on PayPal.
Avoid Western Union or Wire Transfer; there's no way to get your money back if something goes wrong.
