Tutorial: USB to Molex Power Converter
Hey guys, I thought since I'm gonna make myself a USB to Molex power converter thingy, I'd make a tutorial out of the whole thing.
Anyway, making it is pretty easy, doesn't take too long etc.
You need:
- Wire Cutters
- USB Cable
- Molex Adapter Thingy
- Solder + Soldering Iron
- Tape or Heatshrink
Step 1
Make your Molex Adapter look like this (picture below), this will allow 5 volts, as that is what the USB port puts out.
Step 2
Chop the small end off of your USB cable
Step 3
Cut, chop and modify your chopped USB cable to look like this:
Protip: These wires are wrapped in lots of protective stuff.
Step 4
Pretty much use your common sense here and hook the red wire up to the red and likewise with black, then solder it and heatshrink or tape it up.
Final product should look something like this:
If you see any errors, have questions and all that other stuff, just post here or pm.
Also, you can the other end of the usb cable and a female Molex Adapter so that you can use your PSU to power things USB things...
Re: Tutorial: USB to Molex Power Converter
nice tut dude,
Constructive critisum here and in no way ment to offend.
I would recommend getting a better camera or a stand and use the timer function to get better pictures as the quality leaves somewhat to be desired and not really that clear.
All in all a really good guide, i will be doing this in reverse.
Re: Tutorial: USB to Molex Power Converter
Thanks man... :D
I had to use my phone coz I couldn't find the digital one.
Yeh.. Doing it in reverse would probably be more useful. I done it this way so I could power a hard drive in a mod I'm thinking of making.
