Help me pleez!

Ive just wired up a few fans and sum leds in my case, connected them all up but when i go to switch it on ecerything springs to life for a second and then goes dead but it will work fine without the fans and leds connected. ive checked for shorts, am i overloading the psu?? any wprds of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm...this sounds interesting. I wouldn't try turning it on again for the moment. Can you get us a circuit diagram, even just a quick sketch?

What size PSU and what are you running?

well it wud b hard 2 sketch but its basically 120mm fans in the front and top, 80mm in the side and 4 leds. its all hooked up ok coz im running the fans off an adapter as we speak and im using the computer.

the psu is just watevr was standard. possibly 350w

I think your PSU finally hit its limit. It usually takes a minimum of 250 watts to run a motherboard/CPU, then a little more to run peripherals. Video cards take anywhere from 50 to 120 watts.

Yea, Ive had that problem but instead of them switching off and on the fans were just going real slow.

Try disconnecting one thing at a time so you can determine what part is causing the problem.

thanx every1 for your help. i think il just keep them running from the external power source for now because i really cant be bothered undoing everything and im definitely not in the market for a new psu

finally found the problem: some part of the switches i was using seem to be live and since i had them in a steel part of the case they were causing the whole thing to short and trip the psu.
somthing to look out for if your using toggle switches!

yeah and now iv got a lovely hole in my case where the switch used to be!

Put some electrical tape around the threads on the switch where it comes in contact with the case.

Make sure your wiring is covered up. If you have heat shrink tubing use that, Electrical Tape use that,
Or Hot Glue would work also.

Your wires maybe backwards.

everything is fine now, i just have the switch moved to a 3.5'' bay
