Thought I'd post up some designs and get some advice :)

For the blowhole I'm currently going to go with something like this, designed by MNPCTech:

Left side panel

Windows dimensions and shape (as you can see its much more angular)

Right side panel

Front Overview

Alternative design for the front (take a look at the raised fan holes here (http://www.themodnation-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=687&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30) and imagine a double one of that with mesh in the raised bit)

Back

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y189/prosser13/Designs/back.jpg

Mounting of back fan (crude design, blue = fan, green = spacer, red = mounting hole):

Measurement of the back panel, showing why fan won't fit and giving an idea of where spacers will be:

Colour scheme:

Outside: Metallic red
Inside: Black
Lighting: Blue (from LED strips), UV (from LED strips)
Cable sleeving: Black

More to come, this is just a basic idea - need to get the acrylic panel on the right side for the lights designed, chose a fan grill for the top which I can actually afford (the MNPCTech one is $60 + shipping to the UK, not sure I can afford it) - I'll get the designs of the LED light strips done and up soon (need a reply from D3D), same for the internal design; I'm moving the hard drive bays above the PSU, the screws in the top (2 of which are power/HDD LEDs) hold that in place.

So, thoughts please ;)

Whoops :O

Forgot to mention the case I'll be modding: a Chieftec Scorpio.

Its been cut up pretty bad already, its got a large hole in the top for a 120.3 rad and theres a hole in the top of the back which I'm going to replace with a new sheet of aluminium. Its also got a kinda "splat" shaped window which is why I went for the size and shape of the window which I did.

The measurements, off the top of my head, are 43cm deep, 62cm high and 20.5cm wide, so its more than big enough for my needs ;)

Thats huge seeming. Good luck with it. I like the drawn up plans. I like that too, quicker/easier than sketchup for me.

Err :?

Its going to be metallic red :)

You don't see that many red PCs any more

chaksq - cheers, and yeah; I had a go with sketchup but it took me ages to like make a square, so I'm sticking with the good ol' ways :D

Yeah SketchUp takes getting used to and seems to crash on my machine. I was thinking of going with a metallic red myself on a case I plan on modding in the future. I think that case is bigger than my servers.

LOL, the CAD equivalent of "hello world"!

Just one thing, make sure that window doesn't show the drive bays. Too many do, and let's face it, drive bays are usually ugly.

:)

The window is actually more like in the third picture than in the first picture, so you can't see the hard drives. It won't show the drive bays unless your behind the case looking in from the back, I think :) (Confidence or what!)
