Ok, so I upgraded my dad's shop computer from K6 cpu, 40gig hd, to s939 amd 64 3000, 250 gig hd, new mobo. etc. Anyway, my question is...is there ANY way to ghost the 40 gig HD onto the 250 HD and still make the 250 work on the new mobo?

He wants to ghost it, Assuming that it includes the Operation System.
Just plug both Hardrives in, and make the 40 gig the Primary. So it Will boot from whatever he had before, and he will have the extra space.

Ah yeah...i almost forgot though, there's a big problem...the 40gig HD is IDE, the 250 is SATA, and the old mobo doesnt support SATA...is there such a thing as a SATA to IDE connecter??

Yes there is. Abit makes somthing like that. I accually had one but gave it away. its called a Seriello2 or Seriel 2 or somthing. Just go to Abits site and hit acessories.
EDITT** Here is the link to the Serilell 2

-Now this works as it connects the SATA to an IDE drive, but If you pull the Power plug from it, and just use it opositley (IDE side connecting to the mobo) it will work that way too. The person I gave it to is using it like that.

Thanks for the quick reply's guys. Turns out the program's file's im trying to transfer are a little more complicated than that...i was even able to ghost the 40 gig to the 250, make it the primary drive AND boot up, but still didnt work. Just gonna have to reinstal from scratch and call the dang software company

my advice (first post here!!) copy all important documents from your old HDD onto a cd or something similar, then format the 40gb hdd and file it under B1N. price per Gb on sata and ide drives is so little now, it's not really worth keeping old hdd which are probably prone to failure.
also have people heard the latest news about maxtor selling out to western digital... (or was it seagate, can't remember now, damn!)
