im getting ready to push my new mod out into the world..
i was wondering if i could get some of your guys thoughts before i make anything final...
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8440/newcasefr0.jpg
my main idea in sketchup..

..the round thing on the front is a v. proof switch.
..the box in the middle is a optical drive
..the top area of the case will house 4 hard drives
..the bottom of the case will house mobo and psu
..i would love to hide all wires, and possibly add custom water cooling
..i dont know what im doing about a color scheme yet...

i want this case to be very simple and sleek, let me know if you guys have any questions or suggestions...
thanks,
EPYK

Is the middle of the case going to be clear or are you not displaying that so we can see the disk drive?

I like the design is simple and new, especially the layout. But what it a v proof switch?

i dont know if you already thought about it, but that middle space is just screaming to be used for airflow and cooling purposes. id do something like that if i were you.

Okay... I have it now...
have a "water block" on the CPU, and have a slimmer version of the "water block" to cover certain areas that get hot (the HDDs, PSU, Gfx, etc.). The "water block" will consist of a "reverse copy" of a heatsink with liquid inside to fit snugly with a non-liquid heatsink, forming a perfect cube. The slimmer versions will be comprised of a thin rectangle covered with grooves (or ripples to maximize surface area) to cool those hard-to-reach areas. Use regular plastic tubing (or copper if you can bend without break) to deliver the solution. Have a 80 mm fan above the CPU "cube" to cool the case. Have a separate radiator housing attached to the back or top (if you have nice gauges). I think a neat idea for the case is to have the cooling tubes going in and out of the sides and front, and add dye for color (i like red or blue). If you paint it, I think a sick color would be gray with black pinstripes. I'm full of ideas. lol.

This is sweet looking! Simple, Yet somewhat elegant if done right. Whats the dimensions? I agree with slug toy, Stealth some kind of sweet cooling system in there. I say stealth because I personaly love that floating effect you have there and if you have a bunch of clutter in there it wont have that effect anymore. It would still be a cool 360 window though. What is that beam going through the optical drive? Supports? I personally would go with two tiny wires in the back and hang it to give it (again) that floating effect! You might even be able to get away with just putting it there without the wires. You could put a water cooling kit in there somewhere too. I would think the top box or the clear box would be a GREAT location if you decide to make this case bigger than your average case size.

EDIT:
Just noticed something.. is that acrylic in the middle or are you going to have it open? If it's open then I would go with that support thing you have there.. if thats what it is.. but I would also put a second one in the back for extra support unless its light material and you have some wieght in the front where that support is. Again.. if its not a support then sorry. I dont think you specified what exactly it is. Anyways, GREAT design!

Happy Modding and Good Luck!!

But what it a v proof switch?
Vandal proof I'm guessing.

Looks cool so far, and I agree with Slug Toy, the middle would be a good place to put cool cooling. If there was a way to get like clear tubing and use that to support your drive and run coolant through it, that would be awesome.

Ill post some 3Ds. (lol I'm still using Micrografx Designer, but its better than Sketchup.)

i am working on an almost fully detailed model.. right now

progbuddy : i cant tell whats goin on in your design? is it a case? and what was your water cooling idea? show a pic?

here you go this is what i want....
http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/5706/industryon2.jpg

4 HD and power in upper compartment, down to the isolated optical drive (which the eject button will be the VPS on the lower compartment), the lowest most portion of the case will house the mobo, psu and custom water cooling system......

thats that

This would be great for your idea. You need to pick a color scheme before anything though. I think a neat think to do for this case would be to have clear supports between the two sections with colored coolant running in them. You could try clear PVC or plexi tubing.

This song rocks!

You should do a darker blue with a glossy white.

That is pretty darn sweet looking! You got great vision! Have you figured out the dimensions yet? What about case material? Sorry, Dont mean to rush you or anything! But this is a really original design and I love it! Well done so far!

Happy Modding,

i was thinking about using a server case i just got off RAZOR, i need to dimension that... but i got 2 tall cow boxes which also have great potential to this mod... so , yeah.... im just hoping to get this out as clean as my sketchup

EPYK

i think the case will have to be 2.5 to 3 ft tall

MitaPi
09-06-2006, 11:35 AM
lol your case is as tall as mine is long! Should be pretty cool once we get these babies done!

Well good luck to you! Cant wait to see what else you got up your sleeves for this project!

Happy Modding!
MitaPi

EDIT:
Why dont you work more on your sketchup design? As you can see in my thread.. I started with something that seems pretty distant to what I have now and the more I do the more I get psyched about doing it! ^_^

progbuddy

You could go with a shorter, wider one.

EPYK

i was thinking about hiding all cabling, the only things visible will be mobo, water cooling and hard drives....
