Hi guys just wanted to see if any of you agree with me on this.

i kind of feel that Modders are in a way the same as hackers. now sure maybe we dont bring huge corporations to their knees or release viruses or anything like that. but what i have knowticed is that here at TBCS there is an unquencable thirst for knowledge. you can see it your self. its the same trait most hackers have. dont know about something... well find out. find your own way arround things. make this your way. make it do what its not designed to do. these kinds of principles make modders "The Hackers of Hardware"

well, i agree with you. this is how i feel about modding: so what if it wasn't made that way? if i can think of a way to "improve" it... and i test it (it's a good thing to do) and find it to be "better"... well, than i must have improved it,at least from my point of view.. and certain things may have hidden traits only a curious person may uncover.. and once u start uncovering, u go deeper... personally, i bought a multimeter and am now looking in volt-modding (just looking) because i'm intrigued by the potential to reveal potential in circuits that were designed in a way, but with proper modifications may do their job better :)

And i think that "find your own way arround things." says it all. I think that building your own custom case or part does just that: finds a way around whatever "problem" u had with the part/case.. bad airflow, aestethics, an urge to change... anywaaays, i like the idea of hardware hackers :)

1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of
programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as
opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum
necessary.

2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who
enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about
programming.

3. A person capable of appreciating hack value.

4. A person who is good at programming quickly.

5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently
does work using it or on it; as in "a Unix hacker".
(Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit
them congregate.)

6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an
astronomy hacker, for example.

7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively
overcoming or circumventing limitations.

8. (Deprecated) A malicious meddler who tries to discover
sensitive information by poking around. Hence "password
hacker", "network hacker". The correct term is cracker.

This is a dictionary definition: which is strange, because i thought the word Hacker originated from MIT, where it roughly means a practical joke. Anyone who can clear this up, feel welcome.

I guess you can get hackers in anything.

You'll be happy to know that the hackers started as guys that liked to tinker with hardware and make it better back in the 60's and mainly 70's. Then in the 80's the News and Media got hold of the term and screwed it to mean rouge programer hell bent on crashing the mainframes of the world....

So We're all just Keep the Grass roots movement alive (let's see how many media buz words I can use in one post....Oops missed Synergy, and thinking out side the box.... :) )

haha yeah, there are whitehat hackers as well that help out corporations (even though many companies are too stupid to realize this many times).

and from Dave's post #6 pretty much qualifies anyone passionate about something as a hacker! A lot of times you could quite litterally say that we are hackers though, as in hacking with saws, nibblers, pliers, screw drivers, and whatever else is needed.

(I'm really tired so I'm posting short today, sorry bout that)

keep in mind not all hackers make viruses.

there are two main kinds, white hats and black hats. white hackers help people, black hats exploit them.

an yeah, we kind of are the hackers of hardware.
