why is my picture like this ?

I have a Intel Atom D410 processor with a Dell IN1910 widescreen monitor, when I play certain music videos it plays them as a small retangular box with thick black borders all the way round ? The 4.3 ratio music videos play in the correct ratio but some widescreen music videos will not? Is there a setting ? That i can tweek to make the widescreen videos fill the full screen ? (width size)
