Man, I can't even say how much they helped! I had a basic understanding going in to the lesson, but he made everything click for me. I'm getting better. Now I have to work on proficiency.
EDIT
Here are the panels from the lesson.

yep, yep it is :D
Thanks. That was a total accident by the way. I had no plans of putting a skull anywhere. I figured that would be another lesson. While I was painting, Primo said that he saw eyes in the fire, and told me how to build it out. I couldn't believe it myself when that came out of my airbrush.

Well I think Bob Ross would call that a "Happy little accident", but I call it freakin amazing! Keep it up man, you will be doing commissions in no time!
Thanks Curtis. I'm hoping to get some work from the guy I painted the xbox controller for. I have to do his PS3 controller next. He's gonna be showing them off to his friends.
I've been practicing some more. This time traditional red fire on a spare side panel. I'm about 90% done with it.

Here it is done and cleared. Still a little thin, but the shapes and layers are there now. I'll take a couple of pictures with my good camera (all of these were shot on my phone) when the clear is dry, and I'll sand it and go again!

nice!
Wow, those really look great.
Thanks everyone. This is something I've been struggling with for a while now. Although those licks are a little thin, the shapes and layers are getting much better. Here's some detailed pictures with my good camera. Obviously, the clear hasn't been buffed. I just shot one really wet coat, and let it dry.

I like it a lot, the thin streamers give it more of a free-flowing look than most flames I've seen, almost more of a plasma than flame, if that makes sense. I also like the the three small "shooting stars" on the left side, the flame segments with what look like heads, gives it a sense of motion.

I feel obligated to point out here....fire is plasma... :whistler:

Oh. Dear. God.
I have been out-nitpicked. I feel very inadequate right now.

Then my job here is done. ;)
OCD Man, away!
So, I showed this to a coworker. I'll be painting his case soon. Worklog begins when I get the clear & the case.

Could not have said it better myself great job man
Thanks OvRiDe and Liquid. At the risk of sounding like an ass, I do have to say that this is easily my best solo attempt yet. (Compare to http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f186/sgtm_usmc/airbrush%20stuff/DSC03077.jpg and http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f186/sgtm_usmc/airbrush%20stuff/DSC03848.jpg.) I'm gonna keep practicing. I already have another panel in black base.

Believe it or not, that's yellow. In light coats, it has a green hue.
