For the past few nights I have not been able to sleep much. Tonight I tried to go to sleep about 12:30pm. I laid down and just laid there for about a hour. I could not go to sleep. I was comfortable and everything was right for sleep. My brain would just not go into sleep mode. So I get up and drink a glass of water, lay back down and after about 30 minutes I finally drift off. I woke up about 10 minutes ago. Which means I only slept for 2.5-3 hours. The sad thing is I feel completely awake and refreshed right now but around noon I will be so tired.
I get this way every few months and it usually last for a week or two. I have tried signing up for sleep studies at the local hospital but they say I am too young and my Dr just wants to prescribe me a pill to take care of the problem. Heck I don't even like taking a Tylenol for a head ache. So I guess I will be on here late at night / early mornings for the next few days.

Know how that goes. I work at night and some days when I try to sleep during the day I will only sleep from about 8 am to 12 pm or so and wake up and be wide awake. then 2 or 3 in the morning rolls around I get exhausted and struggle to stay awake @ work. lame. I've found that drinking a LOT of milk helps, or a beer sometimes works as well (if you imbibe). Listen to some relaxing music and don't drink any caffeine after 2 pm. Sure you know all these tricks but hey doesnt hurt to type them out. :D

Oddly enough, I've noticed you've been on alot more later. I work 3rd shift so I'm up at that time anyway and usually hit the forums a couple times during my shift.

I remember when I had insomnia... it screws you up. You're lucky the restless leg syndrome didn't tag along for the ride.
Stay away from sleeping pills. I remember when I had insomnia for a month or so I tried self medicating with sleeping pills and it was a screwed up feeling that I don't ever want to feel again -- being unbearably tired but not being able to stop thinking/moving. It's the type of frustration that sends you right up to the breaking point.
I feel for ya man. Ride it out.

Yeah, i also share your pain, i dont often suffer with insomnia, but i suffer with disturbed sleep most of the time.
I will wake up at least 5 times a night, i would guess i get about an hour of sleep at a time.
So then im pretty much shattered throughout the day.

Stay away from sleeping pills.
These have different effects depending on the drug and the person. I'm supposed to be on a prescription for Melatonin, which isn't a drug to my understanding-I think it's some kind of hormone, or naturally occurring chemical. I believe that when you sleep, the melatonin levels in your brain rise, and for some people taking melatonin orally can help them get to sleep. In the US, I understand it's available over the counter and pilots use it for jet-lag. Here, it's a controlled substance and pharmacies need a license to distribute it-I had to get it shipped from a hospital halfway across the country, which recently closed. Now I'm stuck, but my problems haven't been quite so severe recently.

Damn, you should have just asked someone in the states to pick you up some Melatonin. It's a dime a dozen over here and in pretty much every grocery store, rite aid, cvs, walmart, etc...
