I found some leaked screenshots of Windows 7.

A Microsoft rep has pointed out that these are older versions
of the concept renderings for Windows 7.

I think it looks preddy cool. Though I wonder, how much memory
it's going to take to run the operating system alone with all those "Widgets" and "Gizmos". :D

I think windows 7 is supposed to have been build up from scratch, meaning it could be more efficient than XP or Vista.

If I am correct ms is now focusing on the efficiency part, and less on the functionality part, because they have that in good working order already.

I'm still running xp x64 and I think it's great. I don't like that if you turn off the driver signing requirement in vista 64, it wont let you do high-def stuff.

Dear windows-

Just let us have our operating system. You can put your programs on it if you want to, but make them easily and completely removable. We want to be able to use our own programs, packages, drivers and such, just have the core operating system and let us add stuff on.

sincerely, the populace.

I actually heard that Windows 7 will essentially be Vista except with everything it should've had...

Yeah, I read something yesterday that says exactly that. Because then they won't have any problems with new drivers and such.

But I'm pretty sure the original plan was to make a completely new kernel for windows 7... apparently they changed their minds: Windows 7 will probably just be another evolution...

Vista was a pretty distraction for windows 7.

It could be very good, and windows knows that they either hit this one out of the park or apple's adoption will jump up to 25% at least.

Not really. MS effed themselves by waiting 8 years to release a new OS. Seriously, who would want to change to a new OS after they've become familiar with one for 8 years?! After that, MS realized how bad the messed up and plan on releasing a new update every 2 years (a la OSX). Vista was just very bad timing on MS's part. Steve Jo.. err, Bill Gates ;) is just taking some ideas from the [main] competition.

And IMO, it looks a lot like Fedora 9 with gdesklets installed. Three cheers for creativity!

And IMO, it looks a lot like Fedora 9 with gdesklets installed. Three cheers for creativity!I agree with the overplayed release cycle issue. Look at major Linux distributions like Fedora and Ubuntu with release cycles ranging from 6 to 9 months. Not really practical for business but buisness applications would likely be getting distributions like Red Hat Enterprise Linux which has much better long term support but uses many of the improvements from the Fedora releases.

Meanwhile XP has been out way too long without an update. It also takes a long time to adjust to all the features of a new Windows version because MS crams all their new ideas into one package with no options to use them or not. Fast release OSs like Ubuntu can gradually introduce new features without waiting for everything to be tested.
