Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know how many people would be interested in playing on a dedicated TBCS BF2 server with TBCS members as clan and the rest public?

I've only played the demo of it before, but it's definately a game I would play. What I need is an online game to really dedicate myself to, and become a big part of the community of it. I'd be willing to buy it for the purpose of playing with a bunch of people from here. I also have a headset, so I can communicate with the team. With online games, I vastly prefer playing on a team with people I already know. That way we all know each other, our personalities, we know we'll communicate and be friendly, and know each other's strategies.


I would possibly be willing to help setup a dedicated server. I actually have another machine downstairs and another modem too, and I used to have another dedicated Internet line running to it and I used it as a server for Insurgency (http://www.insmod.net), which is another game we could look into setting up a team for. It's a Half Life 2 mod, in the same way that Counterstrike was, except this is better.


But anyways, about what I was doing for a server, maybe that could be used in this. It's either that or I mod it somehow, but I don't really need to do that right now. But yeah, this sounds great, I'd be up for it, and could also possibly help with the server.



And holy damn, the game is only $10 USD. Definately a safe buy.

I'm not sure we'll be able to do this as I am finding out it's a bit expensive. Looks like in the $20 dollar/month range for unranked and $30 for ranked. I'm told ranked servers draw too many cheaters so maybe it would be better to go unranked. I would really like to do this so I'm going to keep looking into it. I would very much prefer that TBCS members get clan status free and maybe charge outsiders something minimal to join or join TBCS. Maybe after financial aid arrives I can afford to front the charges for a while, it would be awesome to blast away with some of you.

fpr halo 1 they have CE edition where u can mod the weapons. i saw one guy made the assault rifle rapid shoot plasma grenades, the sniper have unlimited ammo that shoots plasma granades, and the pistol shoots tank ammo. and the frag grenades have extra power

I've played BF2 a little and it seems a little cheesy and too restrictive for my liking. I'll see if my brother wants it though, I'm giving him my old stuff after I get parts to put it together and maybe he'll play online. I will say that I plan to play Crysis online when I pick it up and beat the campaign if anyone would be interested in getting a TBCS server set up for that.

Well, this looks promising. I have recieved several offers that are very good terms and if we split the fees it would be a very small amount. I also am looking into a couple of options that would provide us with completely free service, but maybe not ranked. I'll keep listening to ideas and offers and maybe we can actually pull this off for once and start having game day. (pissed off at jdbnsn? form a squad, bust several hundred caps in his ass and tea bag the lifeless SOB, that should alieviate some aggression, lol)

I was going to speak to you about it anyway Terry as you will likely be the only person with the access and know how. We should be able to do this for free from what I understand. Dave needs to clear some files first also but then we should be good to go.

I am getting the install docs now and will read them this weekend and then do a dry run on my server here at work (it is running the same OS and kernel rev as the TBCS server). I will also do some network load testing to see what it will do the the server.

Yes the server files are free. I am not sure that we would be able to run a ranked server yet. It _used_ to be that ranked servers were only allowed at specific partner locations due to the possibility of stat fraud. I will also check into this.

From what I understand (which may be incorrect), you cannot run a ranked server for free. So if we wanted ranked we would need to pay an authorized vendor to use it. But I think we can do an unranked for free and that way wouldn't have to ask members to pay anything to play. We can host it as a public arena and lock it for a specific game day for TBCS members only if we want. But we can start a tBCS clan and all that jazz. Paul said he can't wait to plug in the BF2 keyboard and getting spanked by some of our BF2 junkies.

That's what I thought as well. Although it may have changed since I last investigated. I _used_ to be any ranked server must be located at one of the partner sites.

I know there is a way to setup the server so "paying" members or clan members have reserved slots. If you try to log in and it is full, the last joined non-member would get bumped to make way for the "reserved" member.

I will have to dust off my BF2 Z-board as well...

hey ,jdbnsn great idea i would be more than happy to paly bf2 with you guys,Granted im a super noob on tbcs and to modding.
I have been playing bf2 since day one basically i would help with ranked server at least $10 or so a month if you decide to go that route ,it would have to be after holidays .
Then i could , Also there are some awesome mods .You can use on non ranked servers in case you didnt know ,i could even if you wanted me too set up A TBCS clan page on bf2 tracker if yall wanted .

i will help anyway i can dont know much about the runnin the server end but will do all i can great idea man + rep

also the ranked server we had when i was in a clan was about $2.50 a slot and for a 32 man server would be about $80 and they maybe cheaper or even free now lots of times they throw in like a sf server we also had a cs ,and project relaity mod on server . jsut a thought for you guys .

Welcome! Glad to hear we may have some muscle on the team when we get things up and running. We'll go the non-ranked route for now because it would be free for the members to have reserved slots. The best offer I got for a ranked was about .60 per slot on 64 player server but I'd rather keep it free. I don't know anything about BF2 tracker though so maybe you could help out with that?

the bf2 tracker is a site where we all would join and make a page and it keeps up with all our stats and shows them so we could check everyone out .
I think it only works on ranked servers but unranked is cool with me .
some of the mods are sweet

The only thing with that BF2 tracker sight (I used a similar one for America's Army but on my new PC I don't play it anymore) is that it only tracks stats after sign up. This means if you are halfway through the ranks it will only start tallying your kills, deaths and ratio's after you sign up.

Im not for sure i beleive fear is more demanding specs wise than , Bf2
I did have a clan mate that palyed it with a 5200 at one time but a newer update could have changed that .
But if it will at least run fear it should, i would turn dynamic shadows off it seems i see better that way dont know why .
Also it seems running your sound settings on low helps as well .
How much system ram do you have bf2 loves lots o ram lol.

well yea i updated my ram recently, now i have 2 gb, and i have a 2.93ghz p4. i saw a video once a guy used the same card i have and played FEAR smoothly(on low) by majorly overclocking it.

It will have to wait a little while as we finish up other projects but as soon as we can we'll try to open up a TBCS non-ranked server where all TBCS members are clan and we can open it up to publec then gang up on them :) Don't rush out to buy it jest yet, let's make sure we get it running first but we'll keep you posted.

I play BF2 with a ping of anywhere between 60-100 and that's a wireless connection from our modem, still get a bit of lag though.

I get a 30ping on nearly all Australian servers, but if this server is going to be America or something ill have a high ping 300+ HINT HINT :p

I'd rather have it forced on the original guns, because otherwise youll have a bunch of foolish snipers running around doing 1 hit to the leg kills (stupid l96a1). The starting sniper rifle is much more balanced taking 2 hits except for headshots.

yeah thats sounds cool ,so many diffrent ways to keep it interesting they even have a mod ediotor called sandbox where you can race jeeps and boats and stuff to add life to it .

when i admined a CS 1.6 server we could do that from within the game, once a month we would have a day with pistols only, and again the following with knifes only, be banned the auto snipper as we deamed it LAME.
