A great number of TBCS members use Firefox, so we have put together a short list of Add-ons that will make your web browsing life much easier. All of the Add-ons we have listed are version 3.5 compatible and are updated on a regular basis which means no bugs for you to have to deal with.

1. Sothink web video downloader – If you save .flv videos from websites like Youtube, Vimeo and other video streaming sites then this extension is for you. Saving a streaming video is as easy as visiting the streaming site, waiting for a popup window, naming the file and clicking yes. Southlink web video downloader will then download the video onto your computer to a location specified by you. I personally have been using this add-on for over a year now to save web design tutorials, family videos, and the like.

2. Down Them All download manager – This download manager will cut your download times more than in half. On large files like game demos, programs, etc, Down Them All will split the download into multiple parts (up to 10 segments) and download them simultaneously . I was able to download a 1.2gb game demo in under an hour using this add-on. It split the file into 7 parts and downloaded them each at 700kb/sec.

3. Tab Preview – Tab Preview works much like the Taskbar Preview feature in Windows Vista. You hover your mouse over a tab and a little preview window pops up and show’s you what’s hiding behind the tab. Customizing the size of the preview window is as easy as clicking a slider in the options. For multiple tab users like me this add-on is a must have.

4. Smart Bookmark Bar – Smart Bookmark Bar allows you to remove the names from your bookmarks in your bookmark bar. This leaves only the favicon for you to click. Not only does this make your Nav section look cleaner it also leaves you more room to place bookmarks for the sites you visit the most.

5. TwitterFox – For you twitter users this add-on is invaluable. Twitterfox adds a small icon to the status bar (bar at the bottom of firefox) that you can click on to see the latest tweets from your friends. The really cool thing is that Twitterfox allows users to see the tweets received from multiple accounts. While you’re at it follow TBCS on Twitter

6. Tab Kit – Tab Kit is the ultimate in tab customization. Just a few of its features are: Multiple rows of tabs, Color tabs from the same site, Group tabs from the same site, Fade Tab colors with age, Align tabs in different locations, etc. I use it mostly for its multiple row features. Almost every FF user will find something useful in Tab Kit

7. Firebug – This is an add-on everyone with a website should have. It allows you to edit, debug and view virtually every web coding language from simple html to complicated PHP and CSS. To make it even more appealing Firebug also has add-ons that make life simple for CMS users with extensions like Drupal for firebug.

8. Add Block Plus – Do you hate those annoying adds that seem to fill every website known to man? What about those adds that have annoying audio? Or Flashing banners that can trigger a seizure? If you said yes then you’re in luck. Add Block Plus is the end all solution to adds. Just install Add Block Plus and watch all the adds disappear. AEB is maintained by users across the web who report the URL of adds on almost every site and are stored in a database. These new urls are added to AEB during updates. You can even use it to block certain images from web pages. I have been using it since its release and have not seen an online add in over a year.

Googlepreview is a small little add-on that will improve your Google search experience. Once installed you will see a small preview image beside each search result. I don't even have to tell you how useful this is. Never again will you have to waist time clicking on each search item until you find the page you were looking for.

FireFTP is a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client that is integrated into Firefox. This makes file transfers to and from servers easy as a few clicks. All you have to do is type the FTP address into your address bar and FireFTP will load.
